A fully-automated machine vision system for quality control of pills, capsules, including those packed in blisters.

With its smart design, Blispect system can be adapted to any blistering machine and integrated into the existing operation logic and infrastructure, including the rejection station.

Quality control procedures in pharmaceuticals require inspection of each product and its packaging. Blispect, with its neural network-based architecture, can replace manual product inspection, increasing the efficiency of production line inspection. The system meets the pharmaceutical industry's GAMP-5 requirements and features Audit Trail.

AI-powered Blispect enables adding new product formats for inspection directly from the production line, offering great flexibility and scalability. The calibration of a new product takes less than 3 minutes and requires no expertise. The sensitivity of the system is defined by a single parameter, which can be changed at any time after the system is calibrated. All machine control is carried out using an intuitive touch panel.

KSM Vision systems are tailored to corporate requirements, in terms of IT systems of the production plant: data exchange, user right management, reporting. Blispect has a built-in product database where quality control statistics are recorded.

A major advantage of the KSM Vision system is the use of modern neural network technology to calibrate the system for new products. The system is a lot simpler to use compared to standard vision systems, thus significantly reducing the time involved in adding new products to the product base.

Advantages:
- the system meets the pharmaceutical industry's GAMP-5 requirements and has Audit Trail functionality
- very fast and simple system calibration for a new product (less than 3 minutes)
- clear graphical user interface with visualization of quality control on the touch panel
- logging of defective blisters and capsules in a local database
- customized lighting technology to avoid reflections and false rejections
- centralized qualitative and quantitative product control
- tested, simple integration into any blistering machine and reject station

Options:
- preview of quality control statistics for each product with visualization of rejected products
- access to in-depth quality control statistics by time, product, change
- defined trend values and alarms
- detailed reporting
- mobile system management module

What do you gain?
- guarantee of patient/consumer safety
- solving labor shortages by introducing automated machine vision based on artificial intelligence in place of manual inspection
- enhanced brand reputation and trust - consistent delivery of high quality products
- avoiding problems and costs in the downstream process (bulk return, whole lot, container, etc.)
The system automatically detects defects such as:

- incorrect tablet size
- missing tablets
- defects in shape, cracks
- color differences
- crumbs
- dirtiness of the blister
- blisters
- foil joints
The system includes the following components:
- common software based on artificial intelligence for inspection of different product formats
- housing with touch panel
- color digital camera
- assembly components for the production line
- dedicated LED illuminator to protect against reflections and false rejections
- dedicated controller integrating Blispect with machine logic

Configurable interface and database
Based on the production specification system interface can be adjusted, including automatic system set-up with data upload by higher-order system (e.g. MES) and additional data upload by line operator. Data collected by the system can be automatically uploaded to higher-order system.
Thanks to machine learning, we completely eliminate manual inspection of pharmaceutical products, which can be costly, not very repeatable and often not very accurate (e.g., manual quality control of capsules).

The quality control systems we design and supply to the pharmaceutical industry are state-of-the-art vision applications based on so-called deep neural networks that significantly increase the precision and reliability of automatic production control. Thus, we meet the exacting expectations of the pharmaceutical industry, such as requirements for data integrity in the GMP process - our systems are equipped with Audit Trail functionality.

  • When designing the solution, KSM Vision showed great flexibility in adapting the system to the expectations of the BIOFARM Production Department. (...) Since the implementation of BLISPECT vision technology on the 1st BIOFARM production line almost two years ago, the KSM Vision Service Department has been available to BIOFARM employees with a good reaction time.
